The Invitation. Depict film and evaluation.

EVALUATION.
To complete Assignment one, myself and my group were challenged to create a digital text of our choice. We decided to call ours the invitation, a short film with no direct dialogue, just background audio.
My group consisted of 4 people, who overall i feel worked very well with all aspects of the task. From pre-production, to filming and editing everybody done their fair share of work which resulted in a well organised and completed task.

i feel there are many aspects of our film which worked well, such as using split screen to show three similar yet different shots at the same time. Using this technique allowed us to keep the film short, but still include all shots needed to make the moving image flow and show a sense of plot.
We attempted to use a variety of different shots, which you can clearly see when watching the film.
A key shot type which you can see is used a lot is the point of view shot, where the camera is positioned in a way of the characters eyes; so you can see what they are viewing and experiencing. Not only do you see this in the opening scenes, you also see this in the final scene where the three girls have been ''captured''. We took great inspiration for these types of shots from the Blaire Witch Project short film that we had previously watched, which conveys a strong thriller genre through the use of character perspectives and dark lighting.

Point of view inspired by the Blaire Witch Project,

I feel the main thing that let our film down was the lack in continuity throughout the narrative. This varied from actors wearing different clothes in different shots even though the story was based all over one day. This could have been avoided if we had taken more time when planning the prop aspects, as costumes are a feature of this.

To improve our film, i think we could have spent more time planning the plot and filming schedule, as it was a little unorganised, and people in the group lacked knowledge of what was going on because of a shortage in communication. Whilst we were filming, we realised that we didnt really know how the film was ending, and it ended up that we had to film the end shot whilst we were in the editing process as we didnt have a successful ending to  the film.

If we were to complete the task again, we would definitely aim to try more effects and features when editing, as i feel like with special effects and different filters the film could be a lot more successful as a thriller genre, and also more enticing to the audience, as at the minute the editing techniques we have conveyed are quite simplistic and dont show a large knowledge of the software we used.
