Depict Research; Dallas’s Story by Lucy Werrett.
Dallas's story is a short film produced by Lucy Werrett. The video is an animation, accompanied by a voice over of somebody reminiscing about the war.
This short film appealed to me because it tells us a life long story in just 1 minute and 44 seconds without actually showing the person narrating.
The film only shows black and white illustrations when talking about the specific war, which i found extremely effective as it allows the audience to relate to the time period of the events, and it doesn't modernize the context.
Colour is shown when Dallas appears to mention going to school, and being with her friends. I like this feature as it shows it was a little more positive time in her life, and allowed her and the others around her to be distracted from the horror which the war was providing.
One of the main aspects of the short film is the narration we hear constantly through the visuals, to an audience it is apparent that it is in fact Dallas speaking, and she shows no emotion in what she is saying; simply a mono tonal relapse of events, this feature also impacted me because it fits in nicely with the visuals and colours used ( very grungy and dark )
Overall, the short film is very interesting; this is down to the context and the fact it is non-fiction so it keeps you gripped as you know what she is saying is accurate and in the real world.
